The mushroom will take center stage in the Mushroom Capital of the World for the weekend of September 8 and 9 at the 27th Annual Mushroom Festival. A stroll down Mushroom Boulevard (State Street the rest of the year) will showcase mushrooms prepared in cuisines from around the world.
Artists and vendors will descend into Kennett Square to share their unique products created across the country. Come Mushroom Festival weekend, there will be farm tours and growers’ exhibits, contests, games, music, and more to explore in the region where over 65 percent of the country’s mushrooms are grown.
A celebrity chef or two will be in town to share their mushroom cooking recipes and tips. As planning continues, one thing is sure, mark your calendar to join us for what promises to be the best Festival yet.
The 2012 Culinary Schedule is packed with Guest Chefs
Top Chef’s Antonia Lofaso is packing her knives for Kennett Square, Pennsylvania where she will share a few mushroom dishes as the first in a fantastic line-up of Guest Chefs in the Culinary Tent. Also appearing is Dana Herbert, winner of TLC’s Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker. Regional chefs spending time at the Mushroom Festival include Steve Latona, Darryl Harmon, and Barry Sexton. Kennett Square chefs Alfred Jackson of Kennett Square Inn and Brett Hubler of Portabello’s Restaurant will also be strolling down to the Culinary Tent this year.Click here to see the complete schedule and learn more about our Guest Chefs. Eight totally unique garden mushrooms to be auctioned on Sunday, September 9
Get the first look at the 2012 Painted Mushrooms here. Eight very creative local artists took 108-pound, 3-foot tall concrete garden stool and turned them into unique works of art. Now they are being auctioned off at the Mushroom Festival. Can’t be at the Festival? Place your bid online now through Friday, September 7.
Antonelli wins the 27th Annual Mushroom Festival T-Shirt Design Contest
Each year the Mushroom Festival produces a souvenir t-shirt with the winning design chosen from entries in the annual T-Shirt Design contest. It was a hard decision this year to choose one design from the many wonderful designs submitted, but Dona Antonelli’s submission captured the judge’s attention. As the winner, she will receive a $500 cash prize and the design will be featured on this year’s souvenir shirts.
27th Annual Mushroom Festival t-shirts are available for sale prior to the Festival at the Mushroom Cap, 114 West State Street, in Kennett Square. Mail orders are accepted at 610-925-3373. Proud of an antique or classic car you own? Show it to guests as part of the 27th Annual Mushroom Festival. Event day registrations are available from 8:30 to 10 am on Saturday, September 8. Click here to learn more.
Online voting underway in the Cute-As-A-Button (Mushroom) Baby Photo Contest
Vote here in all three categories for your favorite baby photo. Each vote equals a penny in the donation jar of our contestants. Online voting ends midnight September 6. The contest continues at the Mushroom Festival. Visit the Cute-As-A-Button Booth on E. State Street (near Broad Street) and vote for your favorite photo. The contestant in each category that collects the most votes ($$) is crowned 2012′s Cutest Button (6 to 15 months), Cutest Crimini (15 months to 24 months) and Cutest Portabella (24 to 36 months).

Start the Sunday of the Mushroom Festival with a run, jog or walk through the Red Clay Valley as part of the 5th Annual Mushroom Run/Walk. Preregistration deadline is September 6. First 150 registrants receive a free t-shirt. Click here for details.

$55,000 in grants awarded to 33 local nonprofit organizations
The Mushroom Festival’s Board of Directors announced the 33 organizations that received a total of $55,000 in grants from the proceeds of the the 2011 Festival on April 20,at the Mushroom Festival Spring Event. The grant presentation was the highlight of the annual Spring Event held at Hartefeld National.
