Support Your Local Girl Scouts

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:

To serve God and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring,

courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others,

respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Thursday, January 16th is the official kick off to Girl Scout Cookie Season here in Pennsylvania.  Your local scouts already have their cookies on hand and are all ready to move!

In the past I *might* have been guilty of avoiding Girl Scouts….Those little faces are hard to say no to.  But guess what?  My Princess is a scout now and I am the troop Cookie Manager, so I see the flip side of the operation.  And I do mean Operation.  Girls Scout Cookie sales are a BIG DEAL.

What does selling cookies do for Girl Scouts?

First and most obviously, it generates money.  Every penny of the money you pay a Girl Scout goes to her troop (minus what they pay the bakers).  This helps to provide enrichment activities, supplies and even uniforms for the girls.

Second, selling cookies to generate income for their troop gives the girls hands on business experience.  Taking inventory, product promotion, counting money and making change, etc… all comes from being actively involved in the process.  It also helps them understand the value of a dollar.

Not only do I have a small business, but my In Laws have a successful business that has been their livelihood for nearly 2 decades.  We try to teach many of these things in day to day life and I can’t wait to see my daughter go through them herself.

When you support Scouts You Enriching Their Lives!

“Through ongoing programs in leadership development, science and

technology, entrepreneurship and financial literacy,

community service, and environmental awareness,

Girl Scouting provides girls with opportunities to

try new things, cultivate friendships, build skills and

confidence, connect with their communities, and

practice leadership skills.”–Girl Scouts of America

Don’t be ignorant like I once was.  Stop and say Hi, buy some cookies or make a donation.  You don’t have to eat them all 😉

Wanna get the cookies out of your house or office fast?  Use them in a recipe!

I also want to point out some awesome news that I just received!!!

4 of the Girl Scout Cookies are VEGAN! 3 of which are my favorite anyway 😀

The new cookie, Cranberry Citrus Crisps, are low fat and have 9 grams of whole grains.  Aaaand there is now a gluten-free cookie – Chocolate Chip Shortbread (ask your local girl scouts about this option).

There really is something for everyone, I think.  I hope to see you out there!
