I was at a birthday party this weekend and the moms were all talking about how soon the school year will begin and who’s classes everyone will be in. We also discussed the newsletter we received in the mail about teacher negotiations for West Chester Area School District and how it may disrupt the usual flow of September. After this weekends conversations it hit me that we are about to say goodbye to summer!
To be truthful, I don’t enjoy the summer season…the weather is miserable and my morning sickness has been exacerbated my days in the sun. The drought, storms and constant threat of losing electricity have me on edge. I miss the structure that school brings to our schedules and the holidays that cluster in the fall. But the one thing that I do like about summer is the mad dash to do as many fun things together as a family as we can fit into three months.
We have been extra diligent about getting the kids out to do things that they will enjoy together and separately this summer because when #3 arrives, we will be back to baby hibernation for a little bit. As much as can be allowed with a family of 5 anyway…
We have painted pottery in West Chester, visited Stroudsburg Railroad, headed out to Lancaster on more than one occasion, had lots of family reunion time with cousins whom we seldom get to see, planted a garden, enjoyed play dates out the wazoo, had a blast at state fairs, discovered farm animals at small local farms, and there is still more to come! We are hoping to make it to the Adventure Aquarium and Crayola Factory before buckling down. I had my heart set on getting to the zoo and the beach but I just haven’t been feeling up to it.
Even though I crave fall, I have a hard time believing how fast this summer has flown by. How have you spent your summer? Any highlights or regrets? We would love to hear from you!
