Spotlight Interview: Hyland Graphics Design & Advertising

We recently sat down with Matt Weiss, owner of Hyland Graphics Design & Advertising, to hear how Matt got his start in graphic design.

How did Hyland Graphics get its start, and what was the greatest challenge that you encountered along the way?

My business was formed 13 years ago when I was studying for my BA in graphic design & advertising. Instead of working in the college bookstore or taking retail summer jobs, I began interning and freelancing to get my feet wet. After a number of internships, I accepted a job in the apparel industry upon graduation.

Over the next 9 years, I filled a number of roles including production artist, assistant art director, production manager, senior designer and eventually art director. Through these years of experience I decided that, although a scary idea to start your own business, it was time to leave the corporate world and found my own company.

I truly have a passion for small and medium sized businesses. We want to foster our clients into profitable campaigns and give them the big look and feel they deserve at an affordable rate. To date, we have shown exponential growth and have doubled our sales over the last year. It is all thanks to our loyal customers and their great referrals!

How would you describe your usual clients in terms of status, needs, and level of satisfaction toward your services?

Our clients vary from a mom and pop shop down the road to large Fortune 500 companies. The level or service, budget and turnaround differ with each customer. No matter what, we work with each client closely to figure out their needs, provide accurate quotes within their budget and consistently deliver quick turnaround times. We treat our customers like family and each job is treated with the respect and time sensitivity that it deserves. We handle the dirty work and make the process easy to understand.

 

What do you think is the most effective strategy to keep your customers happy and satisfied with your service?


The best strategy to maintaining a happy customer base is to truly listen to their needs. We pride ourselves on being accessible to the clients who use our services. As a small design house, we foster long-lasting partnerships with our customers and have years of experience walking businesses through the process of developing a brand identity. Dynamic designs, affordable pricing and quick turnaround times are the cornerstones of my business!

What was your most favorite and successful project? 

I recent job that we really enjoyed was an estate booklet for a client with Keller Williams Realty. Their former service provider left them feeling unimportant, rushed and with an incomplete project. They allowed us the freedom to exact our vision with a budget that gave us the opportunity to use some cool printing processes like soft touch feel covers, metallic inks and heavy paper stocks. The end result was not only a happy customer, but also a ripple effect through the real estate community for anyone who got their hands on the booklet. When selling a luxury estate, having a booklet that speaks to quality of the home, equals a home run!


What would entice a potential consumer to book your service?

I would invite them to read some of our customer testimonials and to schedule a sit down meeting to discuss their needs. Our consultations are free and we work very hard to find solutions for clients that work within their budgets. No company or organization is to big or to small to get the polished look they need to increase sales and their brand promise. We want our projects to build customer loyalty and the provider to appear as a trusted source. As of today, we have a 100% customer satisfaction rating and we look forward to keep that number rock steady. We understand our clients and go above and beyond to provide the best quality design, consultations, products and customer service that everyone deserves.
