March 2009 brought terrible news to our family; our 5 year old niece, Sophia, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which left her severely disabled. Over the past five years, we witnessed Sophia’s immediate family struggle with insurance denials, challenged transportation and absentee nursing care. For example, the family was denied any assistance acquiring a handicapped accessible vehicle because Sophia is not old enough to drive.
Last year, we hosted the First Annual SophiaJam Event at The American Helicopter Museum to raise funds to help with Sophia’s supplemental expenses. We are proud to report it was a phenomenal success! So, now it is time for round two! Click the Read More button to find out more!
As we shared Sophia’s story with our friends and colleagues while we planned the event, we listened and empathized with so many with a similar story. We decided to expand the scope of our event to benefit families of disabled children in Chester County who face financial challenges due to a child’s illness. We formed a corporation, Jammin’ for Kids, and are awaiting approval from the IRS for non-profit status.
So we are back for Round 2!
May we present SophiaJam 2014! Our fundraiser is structured as a rock concert featuring three bands that have donated their time and talent to perform at the American Helicopter Museum on April 26th. SophiaJam is family-friendly, with a wonderful dinner buffet from Redhound Grille Catering, located in Paoli.
Helicopter rides will be offered through Liberty Flight School, which will take spins around the skies of West Chester and beyond. Three people can ride at once, so this can be a great adventure for a family or group of friends. Mark you calendar for an evening of jamming music, incredible food and flying through the sky with your friends and neighbors!
