|On February 14, 2013, Turks Head Yoga and Confi-dance will join with activists around the world for ONE BILLION RISING, the largest day of action in the history of V- Day, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls.|
“One Billion Rising” is an international movement against domestic violence. A big part of the movement involves ‘flash mobs’ of women performing a dance choreographed by Debbie Allen. There will be two flash mobs in West Chester this Thursday, February 14th. The flash mob at 7pm should really be moving….participants will be gathering carrying Japanese lanterns before the performance. You can watch a short video of the rehersals by clicking here or learn the choreography and join the movement by clicking the read more button.

ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. On February 14, 2013, V-Day’s 15th anniversary, Turks Head Yoga and Confi-dance will join activists, writers, thinkers, celebrities, and women and men across the world as we express their outrage, demand change, strike, dance, and RISE in defiance of the injustices women suffer, demanding an end at last to violence against women.
“When we started V-Day 14 years ago, we had the outrageous idea that we could end violence against women,” said Ensler. “Now, we are both stunned and thrilled to see that this global action is truly escalating and gaining force, with union workers, parliament members, celebrities, and women of all backgrounds coming forward to join the campaign. When we come together on February 14, 2013 to demand an end to violence against women and girls it will be a truly global voice that will rise up.”
Turks Head Yoga and Confi-dance are working together to create West Chester’s first “Rising”. They are currently planning two flash mobs for February 14th in the borough at 12pm and 7pm. Debra Hess, owner of Turks Head Yoga, invites everyone in the community to be a part of this global movement. Details will continue to be updated and posted on www.turksheadyoga.com. Nora Fitzgerald, creator of Confi-danceTM, is featured in a video on the website teaching the choreography for the flash mob.
