Clothes Mentor will change the way you shop and consign forever!

The staff is amazing, the selection is incredible and they are adding a “Study Hall” for the kids while you shop and “Happy Hour” on Fridays!

When Chris Barnett was looking to purchase a franchise, she considered everything from salons to restaurants.  But when she discovered the Clothes Mentor Company, she knew she’d found a philosophy, a product, and an approach to retail that was unlike anything she’d seen.

What it gave her was a vehicle for her own beliefs about fashion – that to look smart is to feel smart – and to do it affordably translates into “being smart.”  From the mom looking to kick up her wardrobe to the new graduate in need of work clothes, or any woman searching for the perfect date night ensemble, Clothes Mentor boasts an extraordinary array of upscale, gently used clothing, shoes and accessories for all kinds of women working within all types of budgets.

Unlike typical consignment stores, Clothes Mentor offers cash-on-the-sport for gently used clothing and accessories.  Chris and her husband, Stephen, celebrated the grand opening of their Wilmington Pike store last fall at breakneck speed.

As the concept caught on, women from the immediate area and the Main Line turned up at the front door, eager to earn cash for their items and to shop the store’s giant space which houses clothing and accessories boasting names like Ann Taylor, Coldwater Creek, Coach and Ralph Lauren.

“The customers cannot believe the amazingly low prices for designer clothes,” explains Chris.  “Our prices are 70% off retail mall prices so every day is a sale at Clothes Mentor.  We carry all sizes, including maternity, and all styles.  We have purses, jewelry, outerwear and shoes.  There is something for everyone at just the right price at Clothes Mentor.”

The store may be large, but the atmosphere is gracious and welcoming – a purposeful approach that is consistent with Chris’s commitment to position the store as one that meets the needs of the community that she says helped build it.

“It is an incredible network of women that come through Clothes Mentor.  We have great conversations while we shop.  You constantly see customers connecting with one another in the store and we’ve even had large groups of neighbors or friends come in for a shopping excursion—girlfriends spending some time together, having fun and loving the bargains!”

Starting in February, community-friendly weekly events including Tuesday & Thursday“Study Hall” allow busy moms to shop while their kids are kept occupied with snacks and getting homework finished, courtesy of the store.  And “Happy Hour” on Friday offers customers light refreshments while they peruse the racks.  This special attention to customer needs is worth the effort to Barnett, who explains that Clothes Mentor is more of a shopping “experience” than a shopping “trip.”

Many women are able to turn sales from their own clothing into cash for shopping and updating their wardrobe.  And because resale doesn’t mean that there’s multiples of the same item, the store employees are alsoexpert personal stylists committed to helping customers put together great looks – pulling from the racks various options until styling goals are achieved.

“The best feeling is watching the physical transformation of a customer when she tries on something new at Clothes Mentor, something that is completely affordable and makes her feel beautiful,” says Chris.  “That inner beauty comes shining through, her shoulders push back and her head is held high—like she is ready to take on the world.  We feel lucky to be part of that experience over and over again every day.” Take a look at the Clothes Mentor’s “Date Night Makeover” below with Melissa.

The Clothes Mentor team went to work to brighten Melissa’s look with a pop of color on top, a shiny satin jacket, and NYDJs with a sequin strip down the leg. Black ankle books, matching earrings & beads, and a suede purse completed the look. This look was fabulous…and the grand total for clothes, shoes, handbag & accessories was only $100!!!

Melissa loved her new look and we can see why! Even if he is not the “Prince Charming” that she hopes, we know Melissa is bound for Happy Ever After!
