This week on Friday we will be celebrating 11 years of the “Going Red Campaign” by wearing Red on February 7th. It has been 11 years of support, fund raising, prevention and treatment of our country’s leading killer of women.
Historically, heart disease research and treatment have been focused on men. Heart disease is the NUMBER ONE KILLER OF WOMEN in America, taking more than 500,000 lives each year. That means of the 1 in 5 women who currently have heart disease, a third will die. Most people would think that breast cancer is women’s biggest killer. Not so. Heart disease takes 3 times more women’s lives than ALL cancers combined. So we need everyone’s help to fight this disease!
Know the Symptoms of Heart Disease in Women. These are symptoms that most women brush off as stress, flu or perimenopausal…Do not wait to call for help if experiencing any of the following symptoms:
Jaw pain, nausea, sweating, lightheadedness, insomnia, pain or discomfort in one or both arms, shortness of breath with or without chest pain, indigestion and uncomfortable pressure or squeezing in the center of your chest.
Please support education of heart disease in women and spread the word!
WEAR RED!. You can also come by my office at Advanced Chiropractic Wellness Center in West Chester and pick up a red dress pin and wear it all month. Get in touch with your local chapter of the American Heart Association to see how you can donate to help the women in our community fight heart disease.
