ERYT, Certified Baptiste Instructor

Colleen stepped onto her yoga mat in 2001 for her first yoga practice. After that first class, she knew she had found something incredible. With the guidance and inspiration of dedicated teachers, she continued to explore and deepen her own practice. In fact, each time she stepped onto her mat she learned something new about herself and left feeling lighter, stronger and more at peace. Her thirst for knowledge about this ancient path of yoga led her to enroll in a 200 Hour Teacher Training program. She is certified to teach Power Vinyasa and holds the ERYT 200 hour certification recognized by Yoga Alliance.

In the summer of 2006, Colleen completed Level 1 Teacher Training with Baron Baptiste. It was a week that transformed her practice, teaching and her life. With the support of her husband and three sons, she completed the Level 2 Teacher Training in June of 2007. Studying with Baron and other Baptiste certified teachers reinforces her belief that this practice has no limitations. Colleen states, “Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga opened my eyes, my mind and heart to the power that we have to be our best selves, on and off the mat. We come to yoga for many reasons, we stay because it not only sculpts our bodies but awakens our spirit. The only requirement is an open mind and a willingness to grow.”

Colleen loves to share her passion for yoga and considers it a gift to be a part of the yoga community. She believes in the healing power and therapeutic benefits of a regular yoga practice and has witnessed the transformation that a dedicated practice has brought to her life as well as the lives of others. Each day she is inspired by her students and is grateful for a practice that continues to be a source of inspiration, joy and growth.

A native of Philadelphia, she is honored to share the practice of yoga in the beautiful Chester County region.

Health Empowerment utilizes your motivation and hypnosis to create new patterns of thinking, improve behaviors, and produce positive outcomes. Health Empowerment is a commitment between you and me, Mary Barrett your hypnotist, to promote healthier living and greater happiness.

I created Health Empowerment for Hypnosis to expand my nursing to a more personal level of care. I became a nurse to care for others. To help them in whatever way I could. Twenty six years ago when I started nursing I would say, “I cannot change why someone needs my services…I can only change how they experience the services they receive”. And this was my mission statement as I worked with children and adults with cancer and AIDS…then as a nurse practitioner with abused and neglected children, and working with the elderly and the disabled. As an educator, I share my philosophy each semester on our first day of class. As an administrator I reach out to my staff when they struggle with the outcome…”sometimes we can’t change the outcome we can only change how others experience it.” To me there is a lot of power in that philosophy. And I am passing that power on to you in Health Empowerment.

Jeffrey Myers has a Fine Arts degree from Kutztown University and a Certification in Massage from Massage Arts Center of Philadelphia. Jeff attributes his ability to do various styles of massage from his background in the Arts. When Jeff was at Kutztown he studied anatomy drawing which enables him to visualize muscles when palpating. This ability aids in recognizing where the problem areas are in the body and supports the body in the healing process. Massage Therapy is classified as a complementary and alternative medicine. Massage used regularly also aids in preventative health.

At UNIVERSAL MASSAGE ARTS every massage is priced the same. As a client of U.M.A. you will not be charged more if you require deep tissue as a therapy. Jeffrey Myers, CMT at U.M.A. believes every client presents with their own unique need for massage or soft tissue manipulation. The client and therapist work together to customize the best massage for the client. Jeff has studied swedish, sports massage, myofascial release, shiatsu, trigger point, active release techniques, reflexology, and various other styles.

The only way to really know what benefits you will receive from a massage or soft tissue manipulation session is to experience the therapist touch. Massage is what the body requires to restore itself to good health. We intuitively practice massage when we injure ourselves and the first thing we do is touch and massage the area that is hurt. Jeff believes that we all have the ability to heal through touch. It’s an innate ability that we possess as humans. When we suffer pain or trauma, we need the medical touch of a healing therapist to comfort and cure us. This is why Massage Therapy is a complementary and preventative medicine. It’s classified as an alternative medicine, because most Western Medicine Practitioners don’t administer massage or other alternative healing modalities. Jeff from U.M.A. has the ability to hone in on this innate ability to heal the body through touch.

Food is my passion! As a Health and Wellness Coach, I am excited to work with women, helping them to make small changes without feeling stressed or deprived. I received my training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I was trained in more than one hundred dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods.

Drawing on this knowledge, I will help you create a completely personalized “roadmap to health” that suits your unique body, lifestyle, preferences, and goals. My specialty – helping women care for themselves and their families without feeling stressed out or deprived.
I grew up with my mom and sister having hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). My mom made her own bread, baked healthy cookies which I traded with my friends at lunch for Oreos. We moved a lot and pretty much everywhere we lived there was a vegetable garden and a farmers market to go to.

Of course during my high school college years where I had more control of what I put in my mouth I ate 7-eleven nachos for breakfast, drank blue kool-aid , gulped six packs of coke and reveled in peanut butter and fluff. I can’t say how all the crap I put in my body made me feel, I never paid attention.

It wasn’t until I had kids that I really paid attention to what we ate, the chemicals I was using and how they all might be affecting us. My oldest had a severe reaction to antibiotics and the introduction of milk at one year old and I started reading ingredient labels. That is when I realized that what I had been feeding my family wasn’t even food. Just chemicals. It took over a year to heal Brian. We went to doctors and specialists, had tests done and no one had the answer as to why he couldn’t digest anything. It was left to me and trial and error.
That was the beginning of the end for me. They say knowledge is power and so it was for me. I began reading and what I read was scary. So I changed what we ate. I changed how I spent my money. Not overnight, not all at once, just one bite at time. I would stop buying certain things or going to certain restaurants. They were replaced with something else, something better.

The journey started 11 years ago and it still continues.

I am lucky. I live in Pennsylvania and am surrounded by local farms and farmers markets. I know these farmers, they are my friends. I know where my food comes from.
Together with what I have learned from my own experiences, those of the farmers I have met and my continuing education at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, this site is for you to find new places to check out, try a new recipe, simplify your weeknight meals, take action, or find some great reading material.

“The chronic pain from my knees finally got the best of me. I knew I had to exercise but being overweight I felt insecure about contacting a trainer. I did not know if they would be willing to work with me. But I made the call to Premier and I am glad I did! My pain, over time, lessened (on a scale of 1-10) from an 11 to a 3! It’s been 4 ½ months now. The staff is not only extremely competent but genuinely caring, as well. So now, 22 pounds lighter, with increased strength in my quads, hams, gluts, arms, and core, I am feeling more confident than I have in years. Best of all, in a recent visit to my doctor, we discussed the strong probability that I may not need the knee surgery we had previously discussed. It’s wonderful to have such a resource as Premier here in West Chester. I highly recommend this caring group of professional trainers. Thanks Premier!!!!!!” –Joyce Chester 50, lost 20+
