Breakfast Really IS the Most Important Meal of the Day
A study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association on July 22, stated that Men who skip breakfast face a higher risk of heart attack or developing heart disease. This study was of 27,000 men over a 16 year period. These men failed to eat in the morning, were found to have a 27% higher risk of heart attack or death from coronary heart disease. The ages of the men in the study were from 45-82 years old. Those that did not eat breakfast tended to be on the younger side and were “more likely to be smokers, employed full time, unmarried, led physical and drank more alcohol.”
“Skipping breakfast may lead to one or more risk factors, including obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, which may intern lead to a heart attack over time.”
The men who said that they ate breakfast also appeared to eat one more time per day that those who did not, suggesting that those who skipped breakfast did not make up for the lack of food later.
So our Mothers were right, breakfast IS the most important meal of the day!
