2013 Holiday Events in Chester County

By -

Believe it or not, Thanksgiving is exactly 10 days away.  Christmas is 37 days away.  It comes up so fast and furious we hardly have time to catch our breath.  But if you are like me, you want to celebrate every last second because this is the most magical time of year!

Chester County offers tons of opportunity to revel in the holiday spirit, so don’t miss out!

A big part of the holidays for my family is getting into the spirit of giving.  WSFS Bank has partnered with 2013 Old Fashioned Christmas Toy Drive to collect new, unwrapped toys for children.

Volunteers and staff from WSFS Bank will also be on hand December 6th at the Mars Drinks Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade to collect new unwrapped toys. Items will be collected along the parade route and at the WSFS Bank toy drop-off table located on High Street between Market and Gay Streets.

Toys collected through the 2013 WSFS Old-Fashioned Christmas Toy Drive will be presented to two worthy organizations:

The ARC of Chester County – For over 60 years, The Arc of Chester County has earned a solid reputation for being a premier provider of programs and services for people with disabilities in Chester County. The Arc has been at the forefront of public policy, fighting for the rights and abilities of individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
Types of Donations Appreciated: Preschool Toys for children ages 5 and under.

Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children – Friends Association is committed to helping homeless or near homeless families stabilize their lives and find or maintain permanent housing. Through the Friends shelter and homeless prevention programs they address the needs of a wide range of families, focusing on families with children, who are the unintended victims of homelessness.
Types of Donations Appreciated: Toddler to Pre-teen. Educational Toys like puzzles, arts and crafts, activity books. Gift cards to Kmart, Wal-Mart and Target for older children.

Toys can also be dropped at these other locations until Dec 9th:

The 2013 MARS Drinks Old Fashioned Christmas Parade

The Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce – Now in its 35th year, the Mars Drinks Old Fashioned Christmas Parade in West Chester evokes the aura of Norman Rockwell paintings. A small historic town hosts a big-time parade and everyone comes out to support it. The parade was recently named by USA Today as one of the top ten places to experience the arrival of Santa Claus during the holiday season.

On Friday evening, December 6, the excitement of the holiday season moves into full swing with countless performances around the borough beginning at 5:30pm. The 5th annual charity event “THE JINGLE ELF RUN” ( Sponsored by ESC Janitorial and Maintenance) kicks off at 6:30pm and the 34th edition of the OLD-FASHIONED CHRISTMAS PARADE begins at 7:15pm. MARS Drinks of North America, our title sponsor will once again be in the tent on North High Street serving delicious hot chocolate. The celebration continues with other various holiday events on Saturday and Sunday, December 7 & 8.

QVC is the new presenting sponsor! QVC on-air personalities will serve as masters of ceremonies for the Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade. The parade starts at 7:15pm, but visitors are encouraged to gather and enjoy other events happening throughout downtown West Chester earlier in the evening

Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas Parade

Come join us on Saturday, December 14 when Lancaster Avenue comes alive with the sights and sounds of Christmas!

There will be a few changes this year.  The committee is looking for a new home for the Hospitality Suite. We are sad to see Minquas Fire House move since we used their engine room for our Hospitality Suite.  But the good news is, during this past year, we have seen 4 new restaurants open their doors along the parade route – Downingtown Diner, Stella Rossa, Grapevine Cuisine and Molly Maguires.

Please keep checking the website as we finalize our plans for the day’s events.  We can tell you for sure that the Christmas Parade will be begin at 3:00 pm traveling from west to east along Lancaster Avenue.

Happy Holidays 🙂
